Living in Flushing Queens
Several blocks of the Flushing Queens neighborhood look as if it were straight out of a suburb. Several tree-lined streets contain single-family houses, although there are plenty of low-rise apartment buildings in the area as well.
Flushing Meadows-Corona Park was the location for the both New York-hosted Worlds Fairs (for the 1939-1940 and 1964-1965 events). What remains is one of Queens’ most recognizable landmarks, the Unisphere. Several buildings in Flushing hold landmark status, and Flushing Town Hall is a key examples of the area’s history.
Residents of Flushing Queens are never far from its own, fast-growing Chinatown. The Flushing Chinatown is developing and expanding so quickly, that many speculate it will only be a few short years until the Queens’ enclave will surpass the size of Manhattan’s Chinatown (which is currently the largest Chinatown in the Western Hemisphere). Though dumpling houses are scattered throughout, there is one incredibly popular eatery that serves up some of the greatest in the neighborhood. This restaurant is the Nan Xiang Dumpling House, which is a cheap place to grab an authentic local-made, ethnic meal. Residents of Flushing apartments enjoy access to the end station on the 7 train. The Main Street-Flushing Station puts you right at the center of the Flushing neighborhood, with the Main St. intersection being the third busiest intersection in the city. Flushing is one neighborhood whose community offers so much, without asking for the Manhattan-priced rent.
